I meant to add that you should stick to books by one or two authors only otherwise you will quickly find yourself being totally confused by the conflicting advise propagated by many gardening experts. Gardeners can be a little like Doctors – experts differ and plants die!!
Pick individuals who are gardening in your general area, i.e., the U.K. Advise given for the U.S. or France or even Ireland will/may not be grood advise for your area.
In my own case I refer to Charles’s Books for most things as I’m a convert to the no-dig system but use Klaus Laitenberger for things like sowing dates as I live in Ireland. Apart from the sowing dates and the no-dig system these two authors are broadly in agreement and I don’t get confusing advise – the single biggest thing that puts so many people off gardening.
