The benefits of across the slope is less soil degradation through run off during points of high precipitation , you naturally create buffer strips to alleviate ( though never stop ) this issue.
I would also consider the ‘wicking effect’ of the wind and possibly consider a wind break as such on the prevailing side to mitigate this.
