It wasn’t that the beans didn’t survive, it was that they didn’t germinate! Either dodgy seeds or the soil was very wet or both, I guess. Mercifully now we have 30 which have germinated so we should get a normal sized crop, albeit a bit later than normal.

The only fantastical explanation is that whatever did for the onions last year left some nasties in the soil which the bean seeds didn’t like…..

I tend to think its just been a damp and cool March as the radishes I sowed between the garlics only starting coming through properly at the end of March and the second sowings two weeks later came through about 4 days after the first sowing. Boltardy Beetroot sown in the last week of March is already coming through too……

Whatever, I germinated peas and mange touts in modules to be safe and they did fine and are now looking good 5 days after putting into the ground.
