Yes this is important and you can do it for some vegetables such as beetroot and dwarf French bean. Another way is to harvest thinnings of carrot, beetroot, spring onion and then keep pulling the larger ones. Also careful picking of lettuce’s and most salads’ outer leaves prolongs the harvest considerably, from one sowing, and most of my books have information on these methods.
