Hi Cherry and yes this approach is good for flowers, trees etc. Homeacres is 3/4 acre too and in places the soil is full of glass and concrete from old greenhouses. One of my flower borders has an old pond liner of fibreglass that I could not pull out and the flowers are a joy to behold.
It’s fine to plant shrubs, trees into the soil and rubble below an organic mulch, then soil life gets busy and is improving soil all the time to some depth.
In my experience you save time and effort as well as having better growth with less weeding.
