Powdery mildew is natural senescence, to a point… and increases when plants are stressed by dry weather. So there is always a fair amount on courgettes and squash at this time of year, but you can slow it down by watering courgettes.
I would not water squashes as you want the fruits to mature now, rather than make new leaves and fruits.
