Hello, I’ve just got an allotment which is on a new allotment site, never been planted before. The site was a former field grazed by horses and cattle for years. The site is quite wet and we did dig out one bed (before discovering your method) and there is clay in parts underneath.
I’m in a similar situation to to Rose so I have had some fresh horse manure with some wood shavings in it delivered from a local stables. I’ve marked out my beds, covered with cardboard then topped with this manure with the aim of leaving them and the worms to do their business until Spring time when I plan on topping the beds with some municipal compost so I can start to plant out.
Will this be an OK no dig method as a start to my first year?
