It’s not ideal Mel but is making the most of what you have.
You may need to rake off some wood in the spring, it will be washed by rain over winter and you will have a surface of wood shave ing by spring.
Do not spread compost on this wood or it will then rob nutrients from your plants. Remove as much as you can, then spread compost on, hopefully, a clean surface.
