Thank you Charles for your feed back. Should the polythene be black to exclude light as well as water? This area is below a slope so there will be plenty of moisture deep down I expect which will be difficult to exclude. Would this method also sort out any bramble roots that are there?

Secondly my present ‘no dig area’ has I have to confess got a lot of weeds on it at present. – Should I be weeding the beds and putting on 2 inches of compost/manure or should I use cardboard as well. If so- under or over the top of the compost.

Don’t worry Dalesman the wildlife have the rest of the 2 acres to play in, and if I do go for the meadow option it will help my bees.
