Those chips sat in a heap for two years and then I spread them on my asparagus area, when they were mostly dark and decomposing, but still woody. Some of the chipw were a bit big.
Best wood is green if you can get it, i.e. chips of this year’s growth. The French call it ramial, and use it for mulching certain plants, and paths especially.
