Hi Mike. I sowed asparagus and kept the plants undercover for two years, potting them on twice before final planting. I was clearing the bed of perennial weeds via light exclusion, so saved at least a year doing this. The plants are well established now and next season we’ll take a first harvest – what a wait! Will be exciting in spring 🙂 So, worked well for myself. Not sure re. Carrots if there’s a great deal to gain?
