It takes longer than that to decompose, up to two years, depending how large the chips/pieces are.
Adding green speeds up the process for sure.
You can use them as surface mulch providing you are happy with woody pieces on the surface. They add fertility slowly as they decompose.
Shame about the slabbed paths!
