Ideally you would have cut some comfrey leaves in May to make a feed for summer. More satisfying than buying a feed, and they will need feeding if growing in containers.
For plants in soil, if you mulch with 2-3in compost/manure at planting time in May/June, or earlier, they should not need feeding.
