Interesting about slugs that you have them too… It’s a risk with green pathetic as well and if you have clover it still needs mowing plus it tends to invade from the edges, plus grass and other. Plants wil seed amongst it. Maybe try a small area to see. In the eighties I used mushroom compost and my own, now I use well composted animal manure and, my own compost and some green waste compost.
