Thanks David, nice thought here, he is coming round to the colour even without ice cream!
I hope your seeds are growing now and do slice out some dock roots. I have had a few whoppers and cow parsley too, growing through the mulches, but they are weakening fast now. It would have been simpler though to chop out the top few inches of root first.
