When using cardboard for the paths or in new areas over grass is there any precautions on the type of cardboard to use? Many cardboard boxes are bleached or have text which uses ink. If the box is corrugated cardboard then the glue could also be a factor. Any guidance on what to use and what not to use?
Paul, best use plain brown cardboard, and never the shiny printed board.
Yes there are glues and it’s a worry, but the cardboard for mulching is mostly an initial weed-clearance tool, not to use every year.
The Centre for Alternative Technology at Machyllneth did a test of newspaper ink and it came out ok.
