Charles, will you be leaving the new growth from your asparagus to grow until winter weather stops it in its tracks? Mine are still growing too and kicking out new growth and I’m wondering if the root system will benfit from them (the ferns) being left as long as possible? Thanks.
I am not especially keen to eat asparagus in December so am not picking it, but I guess one could. They have had a long autumn of growth to feed roots for next year so I am not worried.
I think that plants will go properly dormant when the cold weather arrives in January.
Thank you for your view. I shall leave them and let winter switch the plants to dormancy in her own time. As these plants are finishing their first season in their permanent home, I hope this mild autumn has helped them establish; should have mentioned that before really!
