Asparagus Replacement?

Hello,

I planted some asapragus crowns last April and they are all growing. However, two of the plants, that looked weaker on planting, look poor compared to the other stronger specimens. In addition, I also sowed some Jersey Knight last year and these plants look strong, potted up awaiting planting March 2015 at my allotment.

Would it be worth digging out the two weak plants and replacing them with two of my strongest Jersey Knight (keep them watered this season)? My instinct is to do this, but with it being such a long term crop, I could do with reassuring that this is a wise and normal course of action.

I would do exactly that Tris, there is nothing worse than having weak plants in a long term planting so it is good you have replacements. I did the same thing here.

Thanks Charles, good to know from your point of experience. Hope you can solve the problem of your asparagus getting ‘wet feet’ so to speak.
