In your book Organic Gardening page 186 you say ‘dying top growth can be cut off and composted, or left on to rot’ in your opinion which is the best method? I can do either. Also would you cover the rotting asparagus mulch with manure it would make the bed look much neater. I hope next year is a better year for this vegetable.
It depends how tidy you want to be! I prefer to remove the dead top growth to a compost heap, then mulch with compost and manure which does not need to be especially well decomposed. And yes, a warm spring will be good for it. This year I picked for one month only.
