    Hi Charles

In your book Organic Gardening page 186 you say ‘dying top growth can be cut off and composted, or left on to rot’ in your opinion which is the best method? I can do either. Also would you cover the rotting asparagus mulch with manure it would make the bed look much neater. I hope next year is a better year for this vegetable.

It depends how tidy you want to be! I prefer to remove the dead top growth to a compost heap, then mulch with compost and manure which does not need to be especially well decomposed.
And yes, a warm spring will be good for it. This year I picked for one month only.
