Hi Charles. I have been reading and considering for the future development of my plot the aspect of aspect! I remember during the last year you were offered some topsoil which you added to a raised bed without sides; did you apply it evenly or did you shape the bed to increase the south facing aspect? To influence bed shape in this manner is no small task – IYO is it a worthy investment? It would seem that an increase in South facing aspect, combined with a windbreak, a south facing wall to radiate heat absorbed during the day, and fertile soil create a powerful combination for sound growth! How far should one go with this – most allotments are on the flat….
