Can anyone tell me what I’m getting wrong, this is the second year growing Aubergines, I’m getting plenty of fruit, however about two weeks ago the stems started to go brown and die back. So I’ve fruit on the plant, above a rotten stalk. Am I over watering, any suggestions would be appreciated for next years attempt.
Sorry for your problem, its hard to say without knowing details such as your soil quality, how often you water and how much, ventilation and space around the plant.
On watering indoor plants, except in rare heatwaves, leave two or up to four days between waterings so that stems, leaves and the soil surface can dry, this helps to prevent rots and also reduces slugs and weed growth.
I have had something similar with sweet peppers where they have just started rotting and I think it was a delayed raction to one night when the temperature in my greenhouse fell to 3.5 degrees.
Bluebell this could be the cold noghts but it sounds different to the problem above, you say it is fruit rotting and he has the plant’s stem rotting. Anyway with the warmer nights, after removing the rotting fruit, you could have some more now, although it is a bit end-of-season so you’ll be eating them young and green.
