    Dear Charles

I grew aubergines last year in my polytunnel. They were raised under lights and with heat into healthy plants (Ophelia and violetta lunga 2). I was disappointed to find that the fruits were setting well but the aubergines never grew very large and were more full of seeds than flesh.

Any advice on how to avoid the same problem this year?

    Many thanks

I think Ophelia is a miniature variety. Poly tunnels have lower light levels than glasshouses which may reduce your yield.
Try tres hative de barbentane and pinch off the flowers once five fruit have set if you want large aubergines.
    Hope this helps

Thank you Tristan for the advice

I will give a try to the variety you recommend . It certainly has a very promising name!
I didn’t pinch off any flowers last year so I hope this will help too!

    Hi Lottie,

an additional thing, aubergines need a lot of heat and fertile soil and should never dry out. I find the can be difficult in our climates, but are def worth it if they do succeed.
    Good luck.
