With the first week of dry weather this winter I am finding loads of evidence that Blackbirds are rearranging the compost, Is anyone else having problems with black birds, everyday I find the empty beds are full of holes where they have been searching for worms, it is good news that there are worms, but I am worried when I start to sow the seeds if they will scuffle them all over the beds, any suggestions as to how to deal with them.
Yes I noticed this today, they are annoying and not tidy!
You need to cover newly sown & planted beds with fleece or bird netting. Fleece helps growth anyway so its not an extra job. Once plants are growing strongly, blackbirds still get in there but do little damage to leaves. Black bird netting is a good option & looks ok.
Thanks Charles
yes I was going to use the fleece hopefully it will put off the rabbits as well. I am thinking of an scarecrow I will get the grandson to help with. Happy new season
