Boltardy Beetroot Harvest – Or Leave In The Ground

Thanks for your advise on the leaf miner some weeks ago on the forum. As you advised, they got over it (without any intervention) and we have been harvesting up to about tennis ball sized beetroots for a few weeks now – which is great.

I sowed them on 25th Mar. There are still quite a lot (for us) left to harvest. Are they probably ok left in the ground until we are ready to eat them over the next couple of months (or longer)? i.e. they likely won’t bolt and can be pulled for some more weeks – I don’t necessarily need the space at the moment. As I understand it they are biennial and should flower next year, and are clearly less likely to than other varieties.

They look fine, and don’t have any signs of bolting at the moment.

Do they store ok – for how long?

Wee done Al, a good result. Yes they will keep in the ground, and grow bigger, also a little tougher, still tasty. You could pull in November to store in the garage.
For winter beetroot, you have more tender harvests from sowing June.
