Hi Charles
Thank you for the information on black aphids, I cut out the worst affected smallish area of the runner beans and watered and sprayed for a few days and they did move on. They appeared on some cosmos later on and to a lesser extent to some french cobra beans, but I have been able to control them with water. I notice the ladybirds move in when they do – to try and reagin a balance.
Anyway – I think I have found the culprits munching my young wild ticket. Please see attached. I sowed them a few weeks ago on the ground (as hadn’t finished building the new greenhouse then), and recently moved them onto a table in the new greenhouse.
I am not sure if there are loads of similar green caterpillars or they can be recognised. Any ideas and experience? Do you think the rocket will recover? Other sowings in the same place have not been attacked (coriander for example).
Many thanks
Best Regards
Al
