Composts

I’m very determined to have organic soil – that is in composts I buy in – to create some raised beds. I looked at some New Horizon stuff today and it looked like coarse shredded bark. Didn’t buy it. I read that so many composts have glyphosate in them and I really want to avoid this. Moorland Gold is organic and if you buy a lot of the basic one (without any fertilisers) it isn’t too bad in price. Does anyone have any experience of this stuff? I plan to mix with it some home-made compost and some calcified seaweed. Is this an okay mix, or could I do better? Thanx. Andria

My understanding is that a lot of composts are made at least in part from municipal waste that is hot composted, breaking down chemicals such as glyphosate and chloropyralids. Some are claimed to be organic which I do not understand since garden waste will have been sprayed.

I find New Horizon variable, sometimes it is fine, and sometimes it looks like bark, and smells of pine resin, suggesting inadequate compostimg time.

If you google there are companies that will deliver by cubic meter. Not sure if partly household waste but there is at least one that also does manure based compost.
To ensure no pesticides they should have a PAS certification which checks for weed killers etc.
