    Hi

I had the luck of finding a tree covered in Damsons that were absolutely delicious, and so I was wondering about trying to grow from its seed. If it is as simple as trying to grow from the stones?

    Any experience out there?

    thanks,

    Stew

The problem you will have is that most fruit trees are grafted on to a root stock in order to restrict the growth. So yours will be the original tree and could be huge. Also, you might find the resulting tree is unlike the parent, as you don’t know the pollination partner. Why not buy a bare root plant from a reputable nursery? Bare root are said to be better than pot grown, presumably because the roots are not restricted. Mine came with plenty of root.

Yes there is no doubt that ungrafted trees are more vigorous, so don’t plant one too close to vegetables for example. Also they send up many suckers for quite a distance away.

Think I’ll buy a good variety somewhere. Just when the fruit is so nice you think mmmmm, I like this one!!
