Hello, Everyone
I live in the North American desert (Tucson, Arizona). The soil is sandy and underlain by heavy deposits of calcium called ‘caliche’ – which is earthwormless. Temperatures can reach 45C in mid-summer and humidity get as low as 3% although ‘normal’ is between 9 & 3o.

I have some experiences in sub-mediterranean climate, which is a bit arid in certain time of the year.
We can discuss more about sunken beds, water management, shade and wind protection.
