Hi Charles,
I have just created a raised bed from a piece of scrub land. This particular piece of ground has been covered in brambles etc for years and to the best of my knowledge has never been cultivated. I have removed all weeds etc and I’m now about to cover with well rotted Horse Manure.
I intend to sow early Potatoes in this bed at the end of March and I was wondering if, given the time frame of just 5-6 weeks, in this circumstance it would be better to dig in the manure rather than do the usual and just leave it on the surface?Don.
I would not as the potatoes will root into that cleared soil a bit, and obviously in the compost too. All the time the soil below is becoming more available to roots above.
Yes, I would leave it on top and plant into it. It works well for me.
