Hi Charles. Went to harvest another savoy and found this (hope pic works) a double headed savoy. What’s going on here then? Quite handy really, because the size is more manageable for an odd meal and the other can stay fresh on the plant! Thanks.

Hey only two heads?!
That is very impressive, what variety are you growing there? -
Savoy king f1 from Mr fothergills. The rest grew true i.e. Single heads, good size and tasty. Any reason for this plant throwing out two heads?
-
Has anyone else had a cabbage give out two heads from the one plant? Certainly seems unusual! Thanks.

About four years ago, after harvesting a Savoy King, I accidentally left the stump in the ground and it regrew lots of mini cabbage heads which were bigger than sprouts, more open but perfectly tasty!
-
Thanks Frances. This plant was pricked out with all the others, so I’m ‘stumped’ as to what happened!
-
I’ve heard of people harvesting the grown cabbage head and cutting a cross in the top of the stump to make 4 new mini heads grow. I wonder if the growing tip of your cabbage was cut or damaged to give a similar effect?
-
I’m glad it is something that might happen again – it’s like free food!
-
It’s certainly possible HJU. The best thing is that the size is more manageable for a meal for two and the other head can stay fresh on the plant; the singles are whoppers! Happy growing.

Hi all,
I just noticed today that I also have one double headed cabbage from one plant. Those heads are slightly smaller, but it’s really convenient because it saves space.
I always thought they are actually two plants growing from one clump just like how we are taught to grow beetroot. However Charles didn’t tell us that we can grow two cabbages from one clump as well.
The plant might have gotten damaged from the very beginning when the mesh was blown away for a few days. Nice surprise.
