Frost

Given that it is forcast to go down to 1 degree today are you planning to cover anything with fleece or harvest anything early today?

Oh dear it is so early for a frost but it does look likely. Losses are potentially large and currently there is a strong wind here so fleece covering is not possible. Maybe later but we are going out. Did a big pick of French beans on Thursday, shall gather some courgettes and hope for the best, fear for my climbing beans to dry, and winter squash, we are in a frost hollow here.

Phew. Ground temperature was a degrtee or so above freezing last night, and now with tomorrow’s new moon the wind direction is changing so we lose the cold north to north-weaterlies which have been in place since hurricane Bertha at the last full moon. So a bit of warmth in the next two weeks or so!

I was particually worried as I was away for a couple of days but got back today and found the greenhouse has been down to 4.5 so outside must have been a close call. Understandably many things have slowed down with the cooler temperatures but the only things looking a little bit sad were my pelegoniums.
