    PS

Would 14 tons of compost be about right?

    Best wishes

Shame you missed the chance to sow in autumn, it’s a quick job. Even now (tomorrow) you could sow & simply rough rake, in Cornwall it’s mild enough, many surface-lying seeds will germinate.
Then mow in March. Regular mowing will weaken thistles, nettles etc.
Then yes say 14T compost in autumn, polythene over, in spring ’18 lift a corner of poly to se what is growing…. perhaps add more compost to a small area for intensive growing, before lifting the rest of the cover, be sure to kill perennial weeds.

Gosh Charles, you reckon I could sow the green manure straight onto where weeds are coming back!and then rough rake?

That would save a lot of time and money…

And but – my green compost says it should be down a min 12 months – if I compost in the autumn that will be 6 months max..

    Hello Bereton,

I am also gardening in cornwall, you mention the price of municipal compost, could you tell me where to obtain that round here, and how much they charge? (eg by the ton) I have searched on the internet and sent a few emails, but no luck so far.

I am attempting no dig on my allotment, and so far so good, but having enough compost could prove a limiting factor for me.

    Tom
