Growing Ginger

hello all – i,m a newbie to the forum so please bear with me. i would like to grow ginger this year on my allotment, having had a quick look at some garden catalogues for plants i have drawn a blank. i have read online that you can buy ginger from the supermarket, wait for it to sprout and then plant it. I’m not sure if that is correct. Has anybody grown ginger if so how was it & where did you get the plant.

I grew ginger in the polytunnel in 2008. It made a tall and pretty plant but without any harvestable root, before first frost.
It needs a long season of warmth, best of luck!

hi Charles, sorry for the delay in replying, maybe try it this year just for the flower. i think i will give it a go.
