growing sweet peas using no dig

I have read several articles about growing sweet peas and they all recommend preparing a trench and filling it with organic matter before planting our the seedlings. I wonder how you would do it? presumably your soil is full of humous but mine isnt so I wonder what you would recommend. Thanks, Julia

Hi Julia. It’s a pity that readers are urged to do so much unnecessary work, namely the trench digging.
However organic matter is good, as you imply, and gives best value for least effort on the surface.
Even poor soil will respond to a 2in/5cm mulch of compost, simply plant your sweet peas, and other plants too, in and through that, depending how big they are.
