I’ve grown swede for the first time this year and now have some reasonable sized roots, although by no means really big.
At what stage to swede roots tend to stop swelling i.e. when would be a good time to start harvesting? Happy to wait until November, as we have plenty of other things harvesting in October (late carrots, still got beans, turnips), if that will bring them on even more…….
Yes wait! They increase a lot more yet and also stand well in the ground through winter weather, so harvest as you need them, unless they are in the way, then store in a box somewhere cool outside.
And yes there is plenty to eat at the moment!
In fact I think swedes are most valuable at winter’s end when other veg are scarcer.
