Insect mesh

Hi. Charles.
I’ve been following your site for just over a year, since I asked for a gardening diary so I could know what needed doing when in the garden, and my wife bought me your journal. Since then I’ve been experimenting with your ideas, with mixed results ( less weeds, but not very productive veg), probably because my compost had too many not totally decomposed small twigs in it.
I initially worked on farms, ploughing and working the soil incredibly hard, but as soon as I read your book it felt right. I’ve now have two more of your books, Organic Gardening and How to create a new VG.
Just a couple of initial questions.
On a previous post you said that LBS is good for supplying frost fleece. Do you use the 2m wide roll? And with regard to insect mesh, in another post you said you use the 1.3mm x1.3mm size, which I understand will let cabbage white fly through. Why do you not use the finer one? For 4 foot beds what width would you use and who would you suggest is a good supplier?

Hello Paul, thanks for your post and I like hearing of your changing approach. Yes I do think that machines work the soil hard.
The mesh I use is here and the 1.3mm square mesh does not let butterflies through – some sellers even claim that 5mm does not let them in but I am unsure of that.
For four foot beds, it depends how high your crop will be but mostly I find that a 3.6m wide mesh is enough to allow for the crop height e.g. cabbages. Not Brussels.
For talks it depends on travelling time, I may be able to.
