Insulated Compost Bin

I’ve seen adverts for the Hotbin Composting bin – very well insulated, supposedly makes compost as soon as your back is turned! … but costs and arm and a leg …

… I have been curious about this as I thought a compost heap needed air, in order to stay Aerobic rather than Anaerobic, but was interested in a recent video of yours where you mentioned that using slatted sides – pallets or similar – was not necessary – and you were using ply board for the sides of your bins.

I have some large Celotex insulation boards left over from some building work, and I could use then to insulate my compost heap, which if Hotbox is to be believed would be a significant help, especially in winter.

I’m assuming the insulation needs to be kept dry, so I’d have to cover them in some way – e.g. line the inside of the bins, and waterproof the outside of the insulation.

The Celotex boards are lying in the shed gathering dust, so don’t owe me anything, but I wonder if you think it is worth doing?

Yes kGarden it will work, and is way cheaper than a Hotbin.
Interesting about air, it’s more about adding enough ingredients that hold some air and don’t collapse soggily! As you observe, my solid sides work just fine.
