Good evening all,
Me and my girlfriend have recently taken over a plot, we have dug over half, and have now realised how much work digging over a plot can be!
We are very I rerestedin trying out the modified method on the second half but are unsure where to start.
So the untouched half is just covered over with grass at the moment and it is pretty weedy.
From what I have seen (I may be getting this wrong)
Do we just have to cover the existing grassy area with some sort of cover is cardboard and then continue to cover with good compost and manure? I can then start planting straight into this good soil and the old grass roots and weeds will break down on there own?Ami correct or am I missing a vital step?
This all seems to good to be true and to easy? I am not complaint though!Many thanks for any help and sorry if I am being naive!

BenYes you are right and it is easier than digging, although to clear ground of the initial weed growth your mulching must be thorough. Overlap cardboard sheets 4-6in, and how much compost you need depends on the vigour of those weeds, so there is no one formula. Average 6in works well, then next year just an inch.
Also some perennial weeds (couch, bindweed) will probably grow through by May or June and this new growth needs removing with a trowel. If you do that weekly until they stop growing, you can be rid of most perennial weeds completely.

I find I cant keep away from my plots, even though I’m back to feeling a bit daunted having just taken on a further 1/2 plot that is totally over grown and dealing with working full time and family issues. However I am confident that No Dig is the only way to fit growing on my current scale in to my life.
