Hi Charles. I was hoping to purchase some of the variety Pulsar from Tuckers, but it seems to be off their list :-( Although not as large leaved as others, I think I remember it being more resistant to moulds aswell as tasting good.

If it remains unavailable (I’m trying to plan ahead!) what would be your second choice variety? There are many available and I was considering overwintering some under a homemade cloche, to help keep rain from splashing compost on to the leaves; would this be unnecessary extra work?

Rain here in North Yorkshire is relentless at the moment, although I can still access the plot for hoeing horsetail as rain soaks into the undug ground so quickly; thanks for all your valuable advice. Now, where’s my brolly……..

I wonder what happened to it. I like D’Orlanda too for its larger leaves but they are paler than Vit. I suspect there is more choice in mainland Europe where lambs lettuce is more important for winter greens.

This weather is a bit much and I think you have had the worst of it recently, the weekend looks better…

I have a big bag of pulsar so if you would like i could send you some, i’m not sure about lambs lettuce here, it is just so fiddly to pick and so light, i almost think I could do without it, but then last winter was so mild there was an abundance of salad right through….

Hi Dan, if the offer can extend to myself aswell that would be great. I’m happy to send you a cheque for costs etc.

I’m fine about growing the other varieties, but Charles had recommended Pulsar (on a course day) as being particularly reliable; always a sound starting point! :-)

    Thanks, Tris
