Hi Don
They are direct sown, outdoors – I did think I had left it a bit too late as packet said up to September. They are in Bedfordshire on top of a windy hill and sown in to a half filled 1 meter builders bag, so may have a little bit of shelter but also tend to get more slugs in them.
They are left sown quite close as I wanted to use them mainly raw in salads and have produced tapering roots up to about 5 inches long – well the usable bit, so perfect for what I wanted.
I may have been very lucky with autumn weather etc, but if you have a bit of space next autumn it may be worth a go.
