The mustard from the winter mix from Autumn last year has been pretty good but I’m noticing that despite picking leaves from the lower outer sections, the main stems have become quite tall with not a lot of new growth around the long stem. Is this normal or am I supposed to do something to stop this height?
Yes Mateo this is normal because the mustards are making longer stems to flower.
They always make flower stems in May.
There is nothing you can do to stop it and its a season now to enjoy lettuce, spinach and sorrel leaves, pea shoots, tips of broad bean plants and wild rocket.
I don’t sow mustard again until early August, meanwhile there are many different flavours to enjoy.
