Due to the warm, sunny but wet late spring in NW London, the maincrop potatoes grew prodigiously. Now, with three weeks of drought in June (although I have been watering them), they are ‘going sunbathing’ and are almost lying on their sides, still perfectly healthy but no longer standing upright.
Should I be surrounding them with sticks and string to keep them vertical, or will they survive quite happily as they are??
Its fine, potato stems are often long and lanky, some varieties more than others such as Pink Fir Apple. The only issue is whether they are taking up more space than you want them to and you could support them if so.
