moving perennial kale and globe arichoke

Happy New Year and a good growing for all.
I planted a donated globe artichoke when we first started and it has grown and grown and is now in the wrong place!! I also was given a cutting of perennial kale and stuck it in the first no dig bed we made now that has grown huge as well. I have now created a new bed that will use for perennials and want to move them both but with all the mild weather they are still growing new leaves and and what I want to know is when is the correct time to move them? to their new home.

Hi RandA, I would move them asap so the roots can settle over winter, before they need to grow fast in spring.
Transplanting the large plants my be less successful than taking stems of kale or a cut of root from the artichoke, I would pot on some at least, before moving them, to have a spare plant or two in case the large parent suffers.

I have already taken cuttings off the perennial kale and they have established and are growing well, so may stick with the new ones and eat up the existing plant in the hungry gap, as for the artichoke I will try as you suggest, it is a spectacular plant and would be sad to lose it so I will do as you suggest and thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
