Path advice

Hi all,

Advice wanted.

I converted my allotment to no dig last autumn. All my beds are mulched and looking good. However, the path running down the full length of my allotment (plastic weed suppressant with wood chip on top) has become an expressway for bindweed and couch grass from the hedge at the boottom. Currently ripping it up. I do have a ready supply of card board but am low on compost. All the bark from the path has lots of couch grass weed in it so it needs to rot down further. My bins are full of home made compost and should be usable this spring though likely full of weed seeds.

Was thinking either putting card board until I can get some wood chip or mulch of some kind. Or potentially using grass seed. A bit wary of grass between my beds though.

Any thoughts?

Yes avoid grass, too invasive, harbours slugs.
Woodchip does not stop couch growing.
You need cardboard and up the sides of your bed, or under wooden sides if you have those.
Then more card in two months, repeat until no more couch

I’m a Deputy head in a primary school and the caretaker is keeping any brown cardboard for me. It soon builds up!

My beds are in good condition and run horizontal to the path. But I’ve a 1m wide bed running alongside the path on the left. This is the overgrown bit.

Think I’m going to try cover this and the path with cardboards and keep piling it on. Will let you know how I get on!
