I have 3 raised beds,the paths around them at the moment are covered with cardboard (which will eventually go on the compost heap).
I have black mulching plastic to go onto the paths but was looking for some light material (to carry I mean) to go on top as my garden is down 14 steps and i have back trouble so don’t want to have to carry heavy bags.I was going to use gravel but have ruled that out for obvious reasons.
Was thinking bark or similar but was wondering if it might stick to my boots in wet weather all the time, which would be annoying.

RoyYou could leave the cardboard there and just cover it with some sawdust or wood shavings (light to carry and rot down more quickly, if you can find a friendly wood worker) rather than chips, idea being eventually to have paths of bare earth as that all rots in, just kept weed free with hoing and a trowel.
Uisng plastic needs care as soil and compost tends to accumulate on top, then weeds germinate in that and can be tricky to remove. Again, wood shavings and sawdust are better than chips. I hope you back gets better too.
