Hi Charles, Love your work, you are such an inspiration. I have had a compost pile for a few years now which has been primarily undisturbed. I went to use it today to finish off a new bed and it has a lot of Slaters in it. Is this bad and can I get rid of them so they won’t damage my plants? Thanks Rachel

I find many slaters (woodlice!) in compost too, especially when it contains woody/stem pieces that are still decomposing. They will become less numerous after spreading because of having less place to hide, and birds etc can eat them.
So I would spread the compost and not worry.
Most at risk veg-wise are direct sowings of spinach, beetroot, basil etc so raising plants to set out will reduce likely damage.
