I have just taken delivery of a big load of pig manure. I am starting to spread it on my allotment but I`m concerned because it is literally alive with flies and larvae. Does anyone have any comments/advice on pig manure as a fertiliser?

     Hi Pete
I have never used pig manure so can’t advise but I would not worry about its wildlife. I find after spreading cow manure in a tunnel that lots of flies hatch out and gather on the polythene, without causing any problems to the plants. Plenty of fungi grow too and I wonder if some may be edible, without wanting to risk it!
