planting onion plans in [phormisol] ground cover

my wife came up with this idea of using [phormisol] ground cover to plant our onion plants the cover will be marked out at six inch spacing about 1FT between the rows

we will be spreading manure prior to putting the ground cover in place the ground cover will be fixed down with pegs and soil

because we have redshank weed rife on our allotment its hoped the phormisol cover will stop the redshank weed and at the same time assist the onion crop to grow because the type of woven plastic lets the ground breath

I have experimented with 0.75mm black plastic same idea on my brassicas crops that worked out with good results the only downside was a few slug attacks again manure the ground before covering with plastic

 Do you make holes with a blowtorch or cut them? I have found that cutting holes makes the material fray. For other readers, phormisol is I believe the same as mypex membrane and expensive, but should last many seasons.

thank you for your replies Charles you’re absolutely right about cutting the holes
I found this out when we planted our strawberries in this material a blowtorch
seems a good option

using Phormisol did work fine on the strawberry bed but veg growing is going to be
interesting how things turn out
