    Hello Charles and fellow gardeners
I am raising spinach, lettuces, brassicas and herbs in module trays indoors under grow lights. They are all growing their first true leaf at the moment. When should I be thinking of hardening them off in my cold frame and planting them out under fleece? What size should they be? Last week I put out under fleece some plug plants of peas I had sown in clumps indoors. They were about 20cm high. Today the stems seemed quite bruised and not doing too well. Should I have put them in when smaller? Or will they recover?

I really appreciate your patience and any advice you could give on this.

Hello Lottie, 20cm (8in) is tall!! I plant mine at 5-8cm (2-3in), then they are less disturbed and less pushed on by fleece. Also you can plant them a little below soil/surface level.
    I expect they will recover.
