Preparing the Garden

Hey Everyone. Hope everyone is having a good day. I would like to run this through the forums and make sure I’ve got the right idea for starting my no dig garden.

I have most of the garden covered with cardboard at the moment to kill off all weeds. I will continue to do this through the winter, but in a month or so, I’m hoping to spread 2 inches of compost beneath the cardboard (There is a tiny bit already.), and then let sit for spring use. However, I wouldn’t mind sowing a late crop of Zucchini (common here in northwest Arkansas), maybe some fall beetroot and carrots, and potentially some spring cabbage in September/October as well as some winter salads. Would all of this grow well so soon after the addition of compost? Also, after the initial feeding of compost in the spring/fall, do you ever find yourself needing to fertilize?

Yes plant as soon as compost is added, no need to wait.
No other feeds needed unless your soil is deficient in something.
